Dealing with regulations on a day to day basis.

Regulations are not just something you have to
take into consideration before inspections.
Instead they're something you have to live with
every day. This is the place to post great ideas
you have on how to organize yourself or
inexpensive ways you "fixed" an issue you may
have had! I look forward to learning from you!

Idea Exchange

Ah HA! This is the place for you to "spill it".
A place for you to share your "ah ha moment" with
all of us. Major corporations spend billions
(and in recent times I wonder if they chose to
spend that wisely) on "think tanks". That's just
a fancy way to say brain storming group. So
share an idea or two! Or if you're stumped on
something, post that as well! There might be
someone out here who's faced that problem and
found a great solution. I can't wait to see what
you have to share!

Opening in your program?

We've all been there - when you're completely
incapable of taking on another child, that's when
your phone starts ringing and everyone seems to
be looking for child care? Guess what? When
that happens to you, odds are I have spaces open
and would love that phone call.

So that's what this space is for. Go to the
reply below and leave us your name, some kind of
contact information, what ages you can take and
an approximate location (a school district,
County, something!). Then when I get that phone
call from that parent saying "I needed care
YESTERDAY!" I can give them your number - and so
can other members of the Association. Lord knows
I'm not going to get many calls from people in
Albany or Watervliet, but one of the Association
members who live there might be able to! And
don't forget, summer is coming! If you're going
to have spaces open then, put that in too! Let's
all help each other! You're not alone out
there!

President's Day Conference at La Salle Institute in Troy.

Well, hopefully you know that every year on
President's Day, the Child Care Council holds a
conference for Centers and Family and Group
Family Child Care providers to come together and
aquire a good chunk of hours of training. Well,
they gifted us, the Capital District Family Day
Care Association a table there. Linda manned (or
womaned?) the table for the first half of the day
there. We brought Flippees which unfortunately
didn't sell at all. However, they were
conversation starters! Everyone who walked by
stopped to see what it was. When they did, they
were all greeted with the same question, "Hi! Do
you work at a Center or do you have your own
child care within your home?" With this, we
acquired one new member on the spot, a few other
family child care providers left with our
membership materials, and one woman from a Center
even left with our membership materials and a
strong interest in what we all do for a living!
Also, we sold bottled water as a fund raising
effort, but we only made about $20 doing that.
Numbers were getting smaller as the day
progressed, so quite honestly after lunch, I
packed everything up in order to come home and be
with my family. But overall, I'd say it was a
really good day! We spread the word about the
Association after all!

Benefit night was a success!

We'd like to thank everyone who was able to come
out on the 17th of September to participate in the
benefit dinner at Pasquariello's Restaurant. In
total we were able to raise $374.

Again, thanks to everyone who was able to come out
and have dinner - or even just grab take-out! It
was all greatly appreciated! If you check out the
links page, you'll find a link that will bring you
to their website if you ever want to go back and
thank them as well!

Have dinner and support the Association at the same time! Wed. Sept. 17

I'm sure if you're reading this blog that you
realize how important the Association is to every
child care provider in the area. I'm sure I don't
have to remind you that we provider free trainings
to all our members along with a slew of other
perks - and I'm sure I don't have to remind you
that the more educated a provider is the more
tools that provider will have to support the needs
of the children in his/her care.

Family and Group Family providers tend to have
fewer resources to turn to when they have
questions or issues. The Capital District Family
Day Care Association can help breach that gap.
But the Association needs help as well - we are
made up of all family or group family child care
providers and we're being very careful with the
resources we have at hand.

Please help us help you. Tell everyone to come to
Pasquariello's the evening of the 17th- they can
eat in or take out - BUT if they mention they're
there to support family child care, 15% of the
bill will come right back to the Association!

Check out the link page for their website - their
menu is right on-line! If you have specific
questions, you can call Linda Arocho at 377-1895
for more details.

Can't wait to see you Sept. 17!
